Portland/Steep Falls (pt.1)

Saturday started out with a trip up the coast to Portland Maine.

Mom and Dad got fresh oysters and swordfish at the seafood market, down on the docks in the Old Port. From there we headed over to the Eastern Promenade where we saw a huge 3 masted ship, maybe in for restoration. We also watched one tug pull another into the harbor. We walked the Promenade for quite a while. We saw some strange ducks and a few metal sculptures. I barked a shout out to lots of "city" dogs I met along the way. Sometimes a walk in the city can be an adventure of it's own.

Well now Saturday night it snowed! Sunday morning we headed to Steep falls. I hit the ground running when we got there. By the time I reached the falls I had snowballs caked all over my fur. I just love playing in the snow
We found a wing print in the snow, then a print of a whole bird (look close at picture and you can even see the beak print) in fact there were so many prints in the snow that it looked like a flock of angels had touched down. It was fun making our way though the snow out to the birch tree flag pole next to the river.

It was our first snow tromping trip of the year, one of many winter adventures that lay ahead.

P.S. Happy Birthday to my Grammie Libby. Woof woof...love you.

Black Snout Mountain (pt.1)

Hey everyone I want you to meet my new friend, "Fitty Cent" (quarters for eyes) Our first snowman of the year. He now stands tall on Black Snout Mountain in the Winnipesaukee area of NH. We had an awesome...though steep hike to the summit. We headed up the Shaw trail, very easy going for awhile. We followed a brook for a long way with several crossings. I've gotten really good at brook crossings. Then WHAM...UP... straight up.... steep and slippery with a dusting of snow. The trail split on the top. We decided to save Mt. Shaw for another day and headed out to the top of Black Snout. There was more snow on top but the weather was great. The views, spectacular. We had a snack and made our snowman. The trip back down the mountain was very slippery. We hiked down with a nice truck driver we met. He had climbed the mountain, not realizing it was so steep to the top. Great guy and the folks really enjoyed chatting with him. We all made it back to our car/van just as the sun was setting. We stopped on the way home so Mom could get a picture of a lit up church with a full moon to boot...really pretty. Another awesome Moxie adventure.

Cadillac Moutain, Acadia (pt.1)

Happy Thanksgiving everyone! Now let me explain the Christmas lights..... Saturday Dad had to work so we got a late start to the weekend. Late afternoon we headed up the coast, WAY up. All the way to Acadia National park. On the way up we stopped into LLBeans in Freeport for a quick map of the park. Well, Beans has jumped the gun on the holidays. While our Thanksgiving turkey is still thawing at home, they are fully dressed for Christmas. Oh well still pretty.
We stayed outside the park in the van, and continued up the coast in the morning. We crossed the new bridge over the Pennobscott river, Really cool bridge but looks so out of place that far north.
Time being short, we drove up Cadillac mountain instead of hiking it. Ended up being a good decision. Not a soul anywhere...no traffic like summer. And it was frigid on top. Bone chilling and whipping wind. No wonder all the "sane" people are gone.
The view on top, down on Frenchman's bay was spectacular. We did the stone summit walk. And a BRISK walk it was, burrrrr. I had to make myself weigh 5 pounds just so I wouldn't blow away, ha! ha! I watched out the van window as we made our decent off the mountain. Views down on Jordon pond and other areas in the park were stunning.
We had a slow drive home, back over the bridge and meandered south, through a lot of the coastal towns. We stopped in Camden and saw the village ducks in the harbor, and Mom zoomed in and got a cool picture of the tower on Mt. Battie.
Happy Thanksgiving all. I'm so thankful to wake up every day MOXIE and have opportunity for so much adventure in my life!
