Monson and Greenville Maine

Happy Fourth of July . I hope everyone had a fun and safe weekend. The weather here in New England couldn't have been bought...just beautiful.
We headed North to Monson so my Mom could spend her birthday weekend with her dad, up at his "camp".
Monson Maine, on the shores of Hebron Lake. An Appalachian trail town, home to the Shaw's and the Pie Lady. It is also known world wide for the slate that was mined there for years...Monson Slate.
We stayed in the van, lakeside, Friday night and then joined family for a great camp breakfast. I got to hang out with Grampa's dog Humble, he is a terrier too and we get along just splendid.
Mom and Dad and I did some exploring Saturday morning. We found an old slate quarry and poked around. Then we dove into Greenville on Moosehead Lake. We saw seaplanes on the lake...wicked cool. We shopped around a few stores, yep, they let this adventure dog into the stores too...too cute to refuse...I guess.
In town there were a couple of stone monuments, with quotes from Thoreau and native Indians. Of course I posed for the photo shoot. We visited the historical society museum there too.

Afternoon found us back at camp for a BBQ and bonfire. Such a beautiful weekend, and for once, relaxing. Sunday we took an early morning paddle across Hebron Lake, we could see Grampa out walking Humble on shore. We saw lots of frogs too. Relaxing with family refreshes this dog for my next big adventure...stay tuned.

Harleys, Rocky Gorge & Mt. Sabattus

Looking for a run in, head out on the highway. Looking for ADVENTURE, in whatever comes my way.......Yes I was "Born to be Wild"!!!!!!!!!
In this case, we went to a memorial ride for one of my Mom's good friend. His sister puts on the annual ride and I got to sit on her Harley Davidson..."BIG DOG" (Boss Hog) for the day. The BBQ after was awesome. This dog went to bed with a full belly of BBQ chicken....yum. Thank you "auntie" Rita, for everything.
Sunday morning we woke up in Crawford Notch at the base of Franklin cliffs (we climbed them a few weeks ago on the Ripley Falls loop we did.) A morning drive took us past some cool vistas. We could see the observatory on Mt. Washington through the morning cloud bank.We continued on to Rocky Gorge, on the Swift river. We cooked breakfast early, then took a walk up the river. Very, very pretty. And not a soul around anywhere..

Afternoon found us "sprinting" up Mt. Sabattus in Lovell, Maine. I was on a chipmunk chasing mission....Mom and Dad were just trying to keep up! It was a beautiful afternoon for a hike. And we were rewarded on the top with stunning views and a really cool park bench to sit on. This is where we ate a late lunch. Awww a nice relaxing Sunday. Even adventure dogs like a break on a hot summers day.

We found a big, really big....HUGE chunk of quartz on the way down the mountain. Mom and I climbed up on it. It was kinda cold and slippery....really cool!!!! The loop trail took us quickly back down to the van. Of course we had taken the long, steep way up.
I have had a lot of new friends join me here on my blog. I hope you are all enjoying coming along as you follow me and my folks on our adventures....much more to come.

Magalloway, Umbagog & the Androscoggin

Another weekend adventure full of water and wildlife for me, Moxie, and my folks. Our voyage began with a long paddle down the Magalloway river, across the Maine border and into NH. It was a sunny and hot day with a strong headwind. Mom and Dad worked hard paddling, even though we were going down river. The scenery all around us was so beautiful and the smell of spruce in the air tickled my little dog nose.

Then it happened.......we came around a corner and low and behold, a cow moose out for a morning river crossing. She swam right in front of us. I was not afraid...I am "Moxie,Adventure Dog" but as it came out of the water I realized it was more than just a head...much more! Big ole moose..... Wow......woof!

Then a huge Blue heron walked up the side of the river, and took flight right above our head.....still fearless!

The Magalloway flows into Lake Umbagog and we were greeted by the resident otter as we paddled into the national Wildlife refuge,so void of human mayhem and so full of wildlife. We even found a couple of rocks with Pyrite (fool's gold) in them. A long 21 mile paddle took us through the lake and down the Androscoggin river which turned into a night paddle...bats and all!

I took a quick afternoon nap as Mom and Dad cooked dinner and we all snuggled into the tent for a well deserved good nights sleep.

Sunday..Happy Fathers Day to my Dad. We took the long way home, slow scenic drive. We just love the Great North Woods.
