Magalloway, Umbagog & the Androscoggin

Another weekend adventure full of water and wildlife for me, Moxie, and my folks. Our voyage began with a long paddle down the Magalloway river, across the Maine border and into NH. It was a sunny and hot day with a strong headwind. Mom and Dad worked hard paddling, even though we were going down river. The scenery all around us was so beautiful and the smell of spruce in the air tickled my little dog nose.

Then it happened.......we came around a corner and low and behold, a cow moose out for a morning river crossing. She swam right in front of us. I was not afraid...I am "Moxie,Adventure Dog" but as it came out of the water I realized it was more than just a head...much more! Big ole moose..... Wow......woof!

Then a huge Blue heron walked up the side of the river, and took flight right above our head.....still fearless!

The Magalloway flows into Lake Umbagog and we were greeted by the resident otter as we paddled into the national Wildlife refuge,so void of human mayhem and so full of wildlife. We even found a couple of rocks with Pyrite (fool's gold) in them. A long 21 mile paddle took us through the lake and down the Androscoggin river which turned into a night paddle...bats and all!

I took a quick afternoon nap as Mom and Dad cooked dinner and we all snuggled into the tent for a well deserved good nights sleep.

Sunday..Happy Fathers Day to my Dad. We took the long way home, slow scenic drive. We just love the Great North Woods.
